Are we Creating Problems for Ourselves?

The internet of things is basically allowing information processing to consume ‘everyday life’.

I must admit, I have been sucked into this idea. My household does possess one to many google homes and once you’re hooked it’s hard not to add the compatible technology (we do have some smart lighting). I have been known to ask google to turn on my bedroom light and then stand there and question why I felt I was incapable of walking to the next room to perform this task. One could argue that it made my life just that little bit easier, I didn’t have to go out of my way instead being able to incorporate it into my motion. However, I’m not disillusioned (unlike some) and understand that by doing this I have ultimately given google and Philips hue big data. In that one moment I have given them information such as; what time I turned the light on, from which room I turned the light on and how long I have left the light on (when I turn the light off). I will not begin to speculate how this information would be useful, all I know is they will give it to someone who does and they will ultimately find a use for it.

The problem is that reading the terms and conditions wouldn’t help. Sure, it would inform me, however, if I hit decline they will not let me participate and with the rapid development and reliance of technology, merging with it is believed by some to be our only option.

What truly bugs me though is that this is not the doing of our environment. Humans are the sole cause of this and yet we are talking about future problems as if they are the environments plans and are completely out of our control.

Let me know what you think, do you have any smart devices?
